Konstantinos Georgas, Theodoros P. Vagenas, and George K. Matsopoulos earned the 2nd place prize in the task 2 “Emergency Procedure Hand Tracking” of the Trauma THOMPSON Challenge 2025 for their work “A Data-Driven Workflow for Real-Time Emergency Procedure Hand Tracking in Surgical Video”.
The international challenge focuses on advancing AI for emergency and humanitarian medicine, while the task 2 specifically requires precise real-time detection and tracking of clinicians’ hands and tools in chaotic, life-critical environments. The award-winning solution highlights the potential of data-driven models to support frontline clinicians, enhance procedural accuracy, and ultimately improve patient safety in austere and time-sensitive medical scenarios.
